Former Miss America Diedre Downs Marries Girlfriend In Birmingham

Former Miss America and Miss Alabama Diedre Downs Gunn married her girlfriend in a ceremony in Birmingham over the weekend.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Former Miss America and Miss Alabama Diedre Downs Gunn married her girlfriend, attorney and writer Abbott Jones, on Saturday at the Birmingham Museum of Art.

According to a report by People Magazine, the couple celebrated their union using the wedding hashtag “DrandMrsAmerica.” Downs Gunn, 37, is an obstetrician-gynecologist specializing in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

"I feel overjoyed to have found someone to share life's adventures," Downs Gunn told People. "The wedding was beautiful and special, but it was really just the beginning of our life together. I'm so lucky to have a wife who fills even small, everyday moments with great joy."

Downs Gunn was Miss Alabama in 2004 and was crowned Miss America in 2005. She earned a bachleor's degree from Birmingham's Samford University and her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She married Andrew Gunn in 2008, and the couple had a son together before later divorcing.
