Man Killed in Agoura Hills Crash Identified

He was killed when a fire department truck crashed into his car on Mulholland.

The coroner’s office today identified a man killed in the Agoura Hills area in a crash with a Los Angeles County Fire Department vehicle as 36-year-old Eric Stein of San Clemente.

Stein was killed about 5 p.m. Friday when the Ford Fusion he was driving was struck by a camp crew carrier on Mulholland Highway near Kanan Dume Road, authorities said.

The Ford was eastbound and was making a left turn into a driveway at 31272 Mullholland Highway when it was struck by the crew carrier, which had its emergency lights and siren activated as it responded to a brush fire, according to the California Highway Patrol, which initially reported that the deceased victim was a 70-year-old man.

According to the CHP, Stein’s car had slowed but before making the left turn, the crew carrier crossed the center lines to pass the Ford and collided with it when the car turned into its path.

Firefighters cut the roof off of the Ford to gain access to the vehicle, which came to a stop on an embankment just off the side of the road.

Stein was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash closed Mulholland Highway in both directions for about six hours.
