Vehicle Catches Fire Inside Kanan Dume Tunnel
Traffic was diverted from southbound lanes on Kanan Dume Road after a care fire Thursday afternoon.

AGOURA HILLS, CA — A car fire inside the Kanan Dume Tunnel caused major delays in Malibu Thursday.
A call came in at 1:50 p.m. Thursday that a vehicle inside Tunnel 2 on Kanan Dume Road had caught fire, according to Officer Haver of the California Highway Patrol. Haver said that after the vehicle caught fire for unknown reasons, a nearby good Samaritan stopped, helped the driver get out, and called 911. The vehicle was soon towed away, and no injuries were reported.
Both lanes of the tunnel were briefly shut down until the LA County Sheriff’s Department was able to divert all traffic to northbound lanes while crews came in to check that the tunnel was still structurally intact. Long delays resulted on the well-traveled link between PCH and the 101 Freeway.
