Pedestrian Hit by Car, Expected to Recover

An Alameda man in his 80s was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Central Avenue and Willow Street about 9:50 a.m. today (Monday), according to Sgt. Ron Simmons of the Alameda Police Department's traffic detail.

Simmons said the man was taken to Highland Hospital and is expected to recover fully from his injuries.

The man was walking his small dog and was apparently in the roadway when the accident occurred, Simmons said. The dog was taken to the FAAS Animal Shelter for safekeeping, and family members are expected to pick it up shortly, he said.

Simmons said the driver gave a statement and was released, pending further investigation.
