Police Log: Burglars Hit Offices, Boats, Homes

A thief stole laptops and other computer equipment from several businesses in a rash of commercial burglaries July 5, 6 and 8 on Bay Farm Island, an Alameda Police Department spokesman said.

The burglar hit companies in buildings at 1600 and 1650 Harbor Bay Parkway, including Stryker, Simulex and the Employment Development Department, Lt. Ted Horlbeck said. It's not clear how the intruder entered the buildings, but once inside, he pried open several interior doors.

Robbery

Two male juveniles confronted a third boy in the 1100 block of Park Street the evening of July 9 and stole his bicycle at knifepoint.

In a separate bike-related incident on Park Street, in the 1600 block on July 7, a man saw someone riding his stolen bicycle, detained the bike rider and flagged down a police officer who was driving by. The officer confirmed through APD dispatch that the bike had been reported stolen, and the victim made a citizen's arrest of the cyclist, a 43-year-old man.

Burglary and Theft

A guest who was alone in a home in the 2800 block of Windsor Drive on the afternoon of July 5 hid in the bathroom when she heard someone force open the front door, Horlbeck said. The burglar took iPads and a cellphone but never realized someone was at home. 

A burglar entered a home in the 1400 block of Pearl Street through an open window and stole various items on July 11.

Someone took an unlocked bike from an open garage in the 2700 block of Central Avenue on July 6. Another bike was stolen from a garage in the 1000 block of Via Bonita the previous day. Two bikes were stolen from garages on July 11, one in the 2000 block of Hibbgard Street and one in the 3300 block of Fir Avenue.

A thief cut a lock on a boat moored by the 1800 block of Clement Avenue and took various items on July 7. On July 5, someone boarded a boat moored by the 1500 block of Buena Vista Avenue, pried open an interior door and stole a new nautical GPS unit.

Auto Theft

A vehicle was stolen from the 1100 block of Harbor Bay Parkway on July 5.

Domestic Violence

A 22-year-old Alameda man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he slapped his wife three times, then grabbed a knife, held it to her throat and threatened to kill her, Horlbeck said.

Dog Attack

A pit bull attacked and killed a dog being walked near the corner of Santa Clara Avenue and Fifth Street the morning of July 8.
