Police Calls: Multiple Thefts, Burglary, Suspicious Acts at Residence on Madison

Albany police logs for Jan. 8-9 include a home burglary, two cases of ID theft, teens smoking something, embers left smoking at Albany Bulb, a parked motorcycle hit by a car, and rental cars not returned to Hertz.

Wednesday, Jan. 8

Car not returned at Hertz – At 8:24 a.m., police logged a "Vehicle Theft" report of a vehicle overdue at Hertz on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

Car not returned at Hertz – At 8:26 a.m., police logged another "Vehicle Theft" report of a vehicle overdue at Hertz on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

Teens smoking something – At 10:21 a.m., police received a report of three apparent high school students hanging around a garbage can on Ramona and smoking something. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Identity theft – At 11:30 a.m., police logged a report of identity theft filed by a person in the police lobby. Disposition: Case report taken.

Suspected theft at Bayside Commons – At 12:45 p.m., police received a request for an officer to come to the office at Bayside Commons because of a suspected theft. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Residential burglary – At 2:40 p.m., police received a report of a residential burglary on Sante Fe between 12-2:30 p.m. A side door was pried open. The loss is unknown so far. Disposition: Case report taken.

Smoking embers at Albany Bulb – At 4:56 p.m., police received a report of smoking embers in the fire pit near the dead end at the Albany Bulb. Disposition: Situation corrected by APD.

Radio found – At 10:31 p.m., a person came into the police lobby with a found radio. Disposition: Case report taken.

DUI, suspended license arrest – Police arrested a 34-year-old Berkeley man at 540 San Pablo Ave. on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. (Editor's note: the arrest log does not indicate the time.)

Thursday, Jan. 9

Petty theft – A person the police lobby at 10:17 a.m. reported a stolen driver's license and debit card. Disposition: Log note only.

Identity theft – At 11:35 a.m., police logged a report of identity theft. Disposition: Case report taken.

Suspicious circumstances on Madison – At 2 p.m., police received a report that an unknown subject or subjects have been entering a residence on Madison through the back door. In addition, an unknown subject or subjects have been leaving a portable basketball hoop in front of the front door, blocking the residents way out of the door. Disposition: Log note only.

Parked motorcycle hit by car, leaking gas – At 6:16 p.m., police received a report that a motorcycle parked on Kains at the YMCA was hit by a vehicle and is now leaking. Owner of the motorcycle is unknown. The vehicle driver may have left a note. Disposition: Log note only.

Man with bottle unstable – At 9:30 p.m., police received a report of a man in his late 30s with a bottle near dumpsters in a parking lot on San Pablo talking to himself and acting in an unstable and erratic manner. He may have been drinking. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.

Loud music at Ivy Room – At 10:40 p.m., police received a complaint of loud music at the Ivy Room on San Pablo. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.
