'Rest In Peace Cathy Qiu' Facebook Page Launched

A Facebook page has sprung up in the wake of Albany High School senior Cathy Qiu's death discovery.

The page, titled "Rest In Peace Cathy Qiu" emerged Thursday night.

"I know that many people have already said their goodbyes. However, I hope for this to be somewhere we can all agree that we lost someone great. We miss you Cathy," read the page description.

"Hey Cathy, it still feels unreal. Somehow feels like you'd return to school tomorrow with that chill attitude you always had. And you'd say hi to me while carrying some AP books and a huge tennis racket," wrote Albany High student Annie Chen.

"I remember when we first met at Ocean View, back then I called you my friend and I am glad to have been your friend since then," wrote classmate Alex Malanche.

By 9:48 p.m. Thursday, the page had 184 "likes." Qiu was a Richmond resident and longtime Albany Unified School District student. She had a 4.25 grade point average and was a member of Albany High's tennis team.

A young female body was found washed onto a San Mateo County beach Sunday. It was identified Thursday as Qiu, after an Albany High classmate saw an image of the shored body on television the night before and recognized it.

Richmond police were investigating Qiu's disappearance, which was reported by her family Sept. 27, as a possible runaway juvenile case, said Lieutenant Bisa French. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is now investigating Qiu's death.
