Altadena's Eliot Middle School Changing into Arts Magnet School

Altadena's Eliot Middle School Changing into Arts Magnet School

While Eliot Middle School has been known as struggling school with low state test results and suffering attendance in the Pasadena Unified School District, it is taking a turn, according to a recent report.

“... Eliot is hoping to make a big comeback. Backed by more than $1.5 million in federal grant dollars, teachers and administrators have turned the school into an arts magnet, informally renaming it Eliot Arts,” 89.3 KPCC reported Monday.

Karen Klages, a music teacher at the school, told KPCC that she sees the arts building leadership. The school has recently expanded its class offerings to include dance and theater. In addition, there are plans to renovate the auditorium, add a multimedia lab for students and expand staff, according to the news station.

“In three years, when the work is done, Eliot will be the largest visual and performing arts school in Altadena,” according to district official quoted.
