The Arcadia Fire Department also dealt with a vehicle that ran into a fire hydrant, damaging it.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Nov. 4-10. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Vehicle vs. Fire Hydrant

At 5:06 a.m.  on Nov. 4, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a reported traffic collision at the intersection of Las Tunas Drive and El Monte Avenue. Fire crews found a single vehicle that had struck and sheared off a fire hydrant, causing a water geyser. The driver was uninjured. The water valve was shut off at the hydrant and Arcadia Public Works Water Division was requested.

Five-Car Pile Up

At 10:08 p.m. on Nov. 4, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Monrovia Engine 102, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle on the eastbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews discovered five damaged vehicles strewn across the freeway lanes. Three people were injured. Paramedics transported one person to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The other injured parties refused any additional treatment or transport.

Vehicle on Fire

At 12:52 p.m. on Nov. 8, Engine 107 and Engine 106 responded to a vehicle fire on the eastbound 210 Freeway, initially reported at Madre Avenue in Pasadena. Engine 107 personnel found a passenger vehicle fully involved with fire on the freeway. Fire crews extinguished the fire and overhauled the vehicle. The cause of the fire was undetermined, with the driver leaving the scene prior to Fire Department arrival. The vehicle was turned over to California Highway Patrol officers.

Fire: False Alarm

At 10:37 a.m. on Nov. 9, Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Pasadena Truck 32, Monrovia Squad 101, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported structure fire in the area of South Second Avenue and East Duarte Road. Fire crews discovered a small amount of smoke coming from the rear of a residence. Further investigation revealed that the smoke was coming from a fire in a fireplace to the rear of the structure. No suppression intervention was necessary.
