The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of October 21-27. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Electrical Fire

At 7:13 p.m. on Oct. 22, Engine 105 responded to a report of arcing wires in the 100 block of Lucille Avenue. Fire crews discovered a palm tree had come in contact with electrical wires, causing a small fire in the fronds of the tree. Firefighters extinguished the fire, notified Southern California Edison and secured the scene.

Grenade Removed From Home

At 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 24 Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105 assisted the Arcadia Police Department with removal of a potentially live grenade from a home in the 00 block of East Winnie Way. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad came to the home. The Bomb Squad determined the grenade was inactive and did not pose any kind of threat.

Overturned Vehicle

At 5:39 a.m. on Oct. 25, Engine, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision on the eastbound 210 freeway west of Santa Anita Avenue. One vehicle had overturned. Two had extracted themselves from the vehicle before help arrived. They suffered mild to moderate injuries. They were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Four Injured in Vehicle Collision

At 4:47 a.m. on Oct. 27, Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106 and Battalion 105, with units from Monrovia Fire Department, responded to a traffic collision on the eastbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Two vehicles had travelled off of the freeway and down the embankment to Santa Anita Avenue. Four people suffered from head, neck and/or back pain. Additional resources were requested to the scene to help treat and transport the injured parties. All patients were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Food Cooking in Locked Apartment Sparks Fire

At 9:21 p.m. on Oct. 27, Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106 and Battalion 105, along with units from the Pasadena and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, responded to a reported apartment fire in the 800 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews forced their way into the locked apartment and found food burning on the stove. The food was taken off of the stove and thrown away.
