Spanish-language film star Alejandro Alcondez and his wife, Alicia Herrera, fell in love with Arcadia during a visit to the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Gardens several years ago.

After much discussion, the couple decided to close their Los Angeles restaurant and sell their Beverly Hills home to move to Arcadia and open up a new eatery in their adopted hometown.

Nestled next to the post office at 54 Wheeler Ave., Alejandro Alcondez Mexican Grill & Dancing boasts authentic Mexican seafood dishes coupled with late night dancing and entertainment.

The restaurant's signature offerings include chile de molcajete, handmade tortillas and enchiladas—comfort foods the Jalisco, Mexico native says he looks forward to sharing with his customers.

"I like to help people in the community," Alcondez said. "[The restaurant] is your house that you are invited to come any day to enjoy."

To that end, Alcondez (literally) rolled out the red carpet Friday, inviting media, city leaders and fellow Spanish-language film stars to the restaurant to sample some of Chef José Perez's creations.

Guests dined on cheese enchiladas, Spanish rice and deep-fried fish while they mingled in the restaurant's expansive cherry wood and red dining room. Though the restaurant is still in soft-open with a limited menu, the public can now check the eatery out for themselves.
