Investigations continue Sunday into the bizarre shootout involving a carjacker
and sheriff's deputies in front of the sheriff's Industry station, just south of Baldwin Park.
The shooting occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m., in the 15000 block of Stafford Street, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Kimberly Unland
Detectives said deputies responded to an "armed carjacking'' call about 1:30 p.m after the suspect left a location, reportedly a used car lot, in a white Dodge Charger.
Deputies spotted the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, but the suspect refused and a pursuit was underway, ending on East Stafford Street near the sheriff's station in Industry.
The suspect got out of the vehicle and fired a semi-automatic weapon at deputies, Saldana said. The deputy-involved shooting occurred, leaving the suspect hit at least once.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No deputies were injured in the shooting, Saldana said. A semi-automatic weapon was recovered at the scene.
The shooting remained under investigation, she said.
