Freight Train Fire Quickly Contained In Banning

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department crews were able to keep the blaze to one car.

BANNING, CA — A freight train fire in Banning was swiftly doused Wednesday morning with no injuries, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The blaze that was contained to a single car was reported at 6:55 a.m. near Interstate 10 and Malki Road.

According to a tweet from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, fire personnel cleared the scene a little over an hour after the blaze was reported.

The locomotive pulling the freight cars belonged to Union Pacific. The locomotive departed the area about an hour after the incident, according to company spokesman Mike Jaixen.
