Fugitive Caught, Arrested in Connection to Banning Attack

A Banning man was arrested Monday after police say he allegedly attacked another man, fracturing his skull.

According to a press release sent out by Police Chief Leonard Purvis, police were called out to San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital at 12:30 a.m. when a man came into the E.R. with a "frontal depressed skull fracture."

"Officers contacted the 22-year-old male victim who resides in Beaumont," the release states.  "The victim stated he was 'attacked' by 31-year-old suspect Rudy Garcia who resides in Banning."

Police caught up with Garcia at a house on N. Alessandro Street, near the Banning Post Office.

After a few minutes of a "stand-off," with police, Garcia was taken into custody and booked at the Banning jail on the following charges, according to police: for 243(d) PC Felony Assault with Great Bodily Injury, a No Bail Parole Warrant, a Riverside County Felony Warrant for a weapons violation, and a Riverside County Misdemeanor Warrant for a traffic offense.

It wasn't immediately clear what led to the alleged confrontation, though police do not believe the incident was gang related.
