MoVal Man Charged with Murder for Allegedly Fatally Stabbing Bar Customer

A man accused of fatally stabbing a Riverside bar patron was charged Wednesday with murder.

Victor Anthony Ramirez, 40, of Moreno Valley was arrested Sunday in connection with the killing of 41-year-old Bruce Mackey, also of Moreno Valley.

Ramirez was being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside and was slated to make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

Along with the murder count, the defendant is charged with cultivating marijuana and a sentence-enhancing weapon allegation.

Riverside police allege that around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Ramirez attacked Mackey outside the Lake Alice Bar on University Avenue, near Orange Street. A possible motive was not disclosed, and it remained unclear whether the two knew one another.

Mackey was stabbed at least once in the upper body, according to Sgt. Dan Russell.

He said witnesses called 911, and officers arrived moments later, but the assailant had fled the scene.

Mackey died at Riverside Community Hospital about 5:25 a.m. Sunday.

According to Russell, detectives identified Ramirez in the ensuing investigation and arrested him without incident Sunday evening at his residence on Breezy Meadow Drive.

Court records did not turn up any prior convictions for Ramirez in Riverside County.
