UPDATE: Driver, Child Die in Crash on Beaumont Avenue

An adult and child were killed and three others were injured in a three-car collision in south Beaumont on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash occurred about 2:10 p.m. at Beaumont Avenue and First Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

A white Ford truck was heading northbound on Beaumont Avenue toward First Street when it crashed into a red Toyota Corolla travelling westbound on First Street. The force of the crash sent to Toyota crashing into another truck.

About two-dozen firefighters were sent to extricate the victims from the wreckage.

The driver of the Toyota died at the scene and his three juvenile passenger were transported to area hospitals with serious or critical injuries.

One child later died at the hospital. The ages of the children were not released.

The driver of the Ford truck was also transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The accident closed down the intersection for several hours, causing traffic back up for hours on into the late evening.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Beaumont Police Department.
