1 Dead In Fiery Banning Plane Crash

The downed aircraft was reported at approximately 6:28 p.m. Tuesday, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

BANNING, CA — A single-engine plane crash Tuesday night in Banning that resulted in fiery wreckage left one person dead, authorities confirmed.

The male victim died at the scene and there were no other casualties or injuries, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson Rob Roseen and a report from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The victim's identity was not released pending notification of next of kin.

The crash was reported at 6:28 p.m. in the area of location of Hargrave Street and Malki Road, and a quarter-acre brush fire caused by the downed aircraft was contained at 6:58 p.m., according to Roseen.

Ian Gregor, public affairs specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration, reported the crash was just south of Interstate 10 near the Ramsey Street exit.

The areas are near Banning Municipal Airport.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene. Train traffic was stopped in the area, according to the California Highway Patrol. Freeway traffic was slow but moving.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident, and the NTSB will be the lead, according to Gregor.

More information about the plane's registered owner was expected Wednesday.
