Sinkhole: Highland Springs Remains Partially Closed As Crews Make Repairs [UPDATED]
City officials began repairs to the roadway that borders Banning and Beaumont on Thursday.

BEAUMONT, CA — A sink hole has been discovered in Beaumont, along a busy roadway. City officials say the hole is along Highland Springs Avenue, between 6th and 8th streets, and it was discovered around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Before it was discovered, though, one unlucky motorist got stuck in the hole. Another passing motorist captured the below images of the ensuing scene.

Repairs on the sink hole — which measured approximately 30 inches in diameter — were underway as of Thursday afternoon. Preliminary indications are that it's related to the heavy rainfall over the last year.

"Public Works employees from both Banning and Beaumont are working to determine the official cause of the hole," Beaumont officials said Thursday. "Preliminary inspection indicates an issue with storm drain erosion due to heavy rains over the last year."

On Thursday, workers used a camera system in both the sewer and storm drains to inspect the area, but officials told Patch that they did not find any breaks or issues with the systems.
