Two Seriously Hurt in Head-on Gilman Springs Crash

Two people were seriously injured Wednesday in a head- on collision southwest of Beaumont, authorities report.
The collision occurred shortly after 5 p.m. at Gilman Springs Road and Jack Rabbit Trail, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
There was one victim in each vehicle, and both people had to be freed from the wreckage, a department official said.

Three engine crews and a truck company, numbering about 14 fire personnel, were sent to the scene, completing the rescue operation within a half-hour.
The victims were taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment of major injuries, according to the fire department.

A power pole was damaged in the collision, requiring Southern California Edison crews to make repairs.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
