'Vicious Bear' Attacks in Yucaipa, Sheriff's Officials Say

The homeowner shot the animal dead, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

'Vicious Bear' Attacks in Yucaipa, Sheriff's Officials Say
A Yucaipa woman fought back this week against a 200 pound black bear that attacked her goats before charging at her, shooting and killing it onsite, sheriff's officials report.

According to San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy B. Shedd, the attack was reported in the 36000 block of Oak Glen Road early Monday morning.

"While responding, deputies were advised the homeowner had gone out to her backyard and found a bear inside a fenced goat pen, actively attacking one of her goats," Shedd said in a press statement.

When deputies got to the house, they found what was left of the goat in the pen.  About 40 yards away, the dead bear lay.

"The homeowner advised deputies that the bear had charged her and she was forced to shoot the bear," Shedd said.

The male black bear weighed an estimated 150 to 200 pounds, the deputy said.

Shedd said the Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified of the incident, and a game warden responded to the location to complete the investigation.

No other animals or people were injured.
