An alert citizen’s call to the t led to the arrest of graffiti vandals over the weekend in Belmont.

On Sunday at approximately 3:35 p.m., a citizen called Belmont police to report that four male subjects were spray painting graffiti on one of the buildings at the .

Officers responded and detained the four male juveniles: two 17-year-olds from Belmont; a 17-year-old from Redwood City and a 16 year-old from San Mateo.  The names of the suspects are being withheld due to their ages. 

After an initial investigation, all four were released to their parents. At this time investigators are able to connect these juveniles to several additional instances of graffiti, which occurred over the weekend in Belmont and are investigating their possible connection to other graffiti in Belmont and surrounding communities. 

When completed, the investigation will be submitted to the San Mateo County District Attorney for charges.

“This type of vandalism costs the residents and business owners of Belmont a great deal of money and time each year to clean up” said police chief Don Mattei.  “It also creates a blight on our community and we take prosecution of graffiti vandals seriously”, Mattei added.
