Belmont Seniors Excited to Attend Fair

Local seniors look forward to Senior Day at the San Mateo County Fair.

Belmont Seniors Excited to Attend Fair

Senior Day at the San Mateo County Fair means free entrance for anyone aged 62 or better, and local Belmont residents plan to make the most of it.

"Last year they had fried Oreos," exclaimed Pat Flaherty, adding "but I'm mostly looking forward to the quilts. They always have so many beautiful quilts."

The quilts were a favorite of several women interviewed at the , which will provide round trip buses to the fair on Senior Day.

"Last year there was a quilt with a teapot and a chicken that was just beautiful," said Lucilla Ng. Flaherty added, "there was another one with pictures of children that was really neat." Flaherty suggested Ng enter her own quilts into the fair next year because, "they really are great. She is talented."

The comradery between the seniors at Twin Pines is part of the appeal of Senior Day at the fair for Christa Michaels. "We are all taking the bus, so I can go with my friends," she said.

The shuttle will make two trips from Twin Pines Senior and Community Center to the fair, one leaving at 10:45 a.m. returning at 1:30 p.m, and another leaving at 12:15 p.m. returning at 2:30 p.m. The round trip costs $5. Ray Loya, President of the Belmont Seniors Club, encourages all seniors to take advantage of the budget friendly and easy access to the fair.

"This only takes place once a year," Loya said. "You may think you've seen it all before, but there is always something new. Plus it is good exercise and there is plenty of shade."

Some seniors have big plans for their few hours at the fair tomorrow. "I'm just going to look at everything," said Mary Lowe. "We always have fun together."
