LONG BEACH, CA – A 24-year-old contractor became too weak to lower himself from a radio tower in Long Beach Thursday and had to be brought to safety by fire department urban search and rescue experts. The man was about 50 feet up the tower at the Long Beach Emergency Communications and Operations Center in the 3400 block of Spring Street around 2:30 p.m. when he appeared to suffer some kind of medical episode and became too weak to lower himself, according to Jake Heflin of the Long Beach Fire Department.

Eastbound Spring Street was closed at Redondo Avenue as crews climbed to the man, who was brought to the ground by about 3:10 p.m., according to Heflin, who said the worker declined treatment and a ride to a hospital.
