A 19-year-old Paramount man was killed Thursday night in a single-vehicle crash into a tree on an off-ramp of the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Long Beach, the CHP said.

The collision occurred at 8:24 p.m. on the northbound Long Beach Boulevard off-ramp, said California Highway Patrol Officer Christian Cracraft. The driver, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene, Cracraft said.

The victim was driving a Toyota Corolla about 60 mph in the No. 3 lane when he swerved to the right across the gore point, fishtailed, regained control, accelerated to around 65 mph and failed to negotiate a curve, said CHP Officer Monica Posada. The Toyota struck a tree and caught fire, Posada said. The investigation is ongoing and details of what happened are preliminary, Posada said.
