The City of Berkeley is a great place to take a walk, according to an assessment by Walkscore.com. Berkeley ranked as the fifth most walkable city in California, with 82 points overall out of a possible 100. For cities nationwide with populations over 100,000, Berkeley also came in fifth place.

A total of 2,500 U.S. cities were ranked, and 300 were labelled a "walker's paradise" for scoring above 90, including ten Oakland neighborhoods. Statewide, West Hollywood was deemed most feet friendly, followed by Albany, San Francisco, Santa Monica and then Berkeley.

Walkscore also provides a breakdown by zip code listed on Berkeley's page alongside a map of the city. The highest points were awarded for the 94704 zip code, by the UC Berkeley campus, which scored 88 points.
