The following is a press release from the City of Beverly Hills.
The just unveiled its summer offerings. This year the library has two reading programs: Dream Big—Read! for the Children’s Summer Reading Club and the brand new Own The Night Teen Summer Reading Club. The Library also hosts a variety of free events and entertainment, including a
Reading Club kick-off party on Sunday, July 1 at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday performances at 3:30 p.m. and storytime offerings for tots.
“The summer reading clubs are always our most popular programs, but this year is really special,” says Nancy Hunt-Coffey, Assistant Director of Community Services. “In conjunction with our new Teen Zone we added the incredible teen reading club.”
Both Reading Clubs begin on June 22 and run through August 26. Children sign up for Dream Big—Read! in the Children’s Division anytime during library hours beginning June 22 and report their reading progress until August 26. Participants receive a reading log book and, as they report their accomplishments, will receive a DIY mobile and other incentives.
Teens sign up for Own the Night in the Teen Zone. They also receive a log book and incentives, including free books and $10 gift certificates.
All are invited to join the Reading Club kick-off party on Sunday, July 1 at 5:30 p.m. featuring a performance by popular children’s performer Dan Crow and his guitar Bob.
Beginning July 9 the library is proud to present Terrific Tuesday outdoor performances each Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the adjacent Civic Center Plaza. The line-up includes Epoxie Unglued’s one-man show (July 10), Ken Frawley and his puppets (July 17), Abitt the Average and his magic (July 24) and the Swazzle Puppet Company (July 31).
Throughout July the Children’s Library hosts family storytime programs on Mondays at 10:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., Wednesdays at 10:15 a.m. and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The innovative Can’t Sit Still storytime—an all-ages interactive class for kinesthetic learners who enjoy movement—is on Wednesdays at 11:15 a.m. For our littlest listeners, baby storytime is on Fridays at 10:30 a.m.
All of these programs are free, and open to children and their families (no registration required). For more information on these programs, call the Children's Library 310-288-2211 or visit the Library's website www.bhpl.org.
