The report reviews the accomplishments of the city library over the last year and presents goals for the future.

Library Staff Presents Council With Annual Report

Acting as the Board of Trustees, the City Council received an annual report Thursday from library staff recapping the accomplishments of the city library during fiscal year 2011-12 and outlining goals for 2012-13.

Here are some highlights from the staff report:

Usage, FY 2011-12

  • 503,704 visits by patrons; 9 percent decrease from last fiscal year.
  • Checked out and renewed 626,081 books, movies and CDs; 7 percent decrease from last fiscal year.
  • Answered more than 98,656 reference questions; 1 percent increase from last fiscal year.
  • 145,346 visits to library website; 27 percent increase from last fiscal year.
  • Accepted and processed more than 3,077 passport applications, generating $106,532 in revenues; 23 percent increase from last fiscal year.
  • Generated a total of $380,317 in revenues; 28 percent decrease from last fiscal year.
  • Patrons used library public computers 65,959 times; 19 percent decrease from last fiscal year.
  • Offered 309 programs for children with an attendance of 7,894.
  • Offered 60 programs for adults with an attendance of 1,927.

Programming, Services & Collaborations, FY 2011-12

  • Offered first Teen Summer Reading Club.
  • Worked closely with the  for fundraising efforts.
  • Partnered with and local volunteers to offer a display of items related to 9/11 and the opening of the .
  • Partnered with and local volunteers to offer displays recognizing local veterans.
  • Worked with the Friends of the Library to continue the home delivery of library materials to seniors.

Facility Improvements, FY 2011-12

  • Opened the new Teen Zone.
