Sunday afternoon the Beverly Hills Police Department received a call reporting that someone at the home of TV personality Simon Cowell had been tied up with duct tape and needed assistance.
The call came in at 12:56 p.m. and the address given to police was determined to be outside of Beverly Hills, even though Cowell's residence is within city limits, according to BHPD Lt. Lincoln Hoshino.
BHPD responded to Cowell's home and contacted him, confirming that the call was a false report of an emergency.
Cowell is famed for his work on American Idol, The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent. He is the latest celebrity to be targeted in a series of hoaxes in which police are called to the homes of famous people under the pretense that a crime has occurred. Other celebrities targeted include Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Ashton Kutcher.
