Bundle up, Los Angeles, and keep your umbrella close.

The National Weather Service said Thursday to expect cold weather with the possibility of rain through Friday night as a storm system drops into Southern California.

The system originates from the Gulf of Alaska, bringing with it lower temperatures, winds and snow to the mountains.

There is a 50 to 60 percent chance of rain beginning Thursday afternoon and extending into Friday. More certain is colder temperatures and snow at lower levels, the weather service said.

Gusty winds, west to northwest, are also expected, and isolated thunderstorms haven't been ruled out.

Anyone traveling to the mountains or desert should check the latest road conditions and take along warm clothes, supplies and tire chains.
