Broken Fire Hydrant Hydrates Brentwood Village

A car hit and displaced a fire hydrant near the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Barrington Avenue in Brentwood Village Tuesday afternoon, causing water to spew more than 10 feet in the air for about 20 minutes.

Los Angeles Firefighters from Westwood's station 37 responded to a call about a broken fire hydrant in Brentwood Village near the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Barrington Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

"We were dispatched to the hydrant and we just shut it off," said Capt. Tom Jaramillo of Station 37.

Police told Patch that a car drove into the hydrant, which caused it to spew water more than 10 feet in the air for about 20 minutes.

"We heard the crash and called 911," said Jennifer Habig, head designer at , which is adjacent to the hydrant.

When the accident occurred, Brentwood firefighters from station 19 were refueling at station 69 in the Palisades and were unable to respond, said LAFD Capt. Mark Harrison.
