Kevin Cordasco, 16, Dies Following Battle With Neuroblastoma

The young man was recently named honorary mayor of Calabasas for 2013.

Kevin Cordasco of Calabasas died Monday at the age of 16 following a long battle with neuroblastoma.

The Calabasas High junior, who had the cancer since the age of 9, went through multiple surgeries, bone marrow transplants, experimental drugs, chemo and radiation. He fought his way through many relapses with a positive spirit.

The Talbert Family Foundation, a non-profit that helped raise funds for his treatment, issued a statement Monday:

The Talbert Family Foundation and the Talbert Family are deeply saddened by the passing of Kevin Cordasco this morning. Our thoughts, prayers and love go out to the Cordasco family.

Calabasas Mayor Mary Sue Maurer also released a statement.

"Our community mourns the loss of a brave young hero who taught us how to live life to its fullest and be kind to one another," Maurer said. "Our thoughts and prayers go to his mother Melodie, his father Kevin, and his extraordinary brother Cade."

Kevin spoke often for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life and the St. Baldrick's Foundation from the age of 10.

Kevin's mantra was "Courage, Strength, Believe."

He was most recently named honorary mayor of Calabasas for 2013. During the ceremony at the Calabasas State of the City Address, Kevin said his dream was to change the world.

"I would have never expected over the past six years of my fight, I would have never expected to make this kind of impact on people, even though it is a big goal of mine," Kevin said. "I really feel like this is a big accomplishment for me because it is a symbol that I was able to bring the community together and make a difference in the world, which is what I would love to do everyday."
