Updated: Suspected DUI Arrest Made In Fatal Campbell Crash

UPDATE 11:15AM - 

CAMPBELL - A 19-year-old man was arrested in a suspected drunk driving collision that killed a bicyclist in Campbell on Sunday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Damian Joseph Sandoval-Pacheco, of Campbell, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter, CHP Officer Ross Lee said.

Sandoval-Pacheco was speeding in a 1997 Ford Mustang on northbound San Tomas Expressway north of Winchester Boulevard, where he lost control of the vehicle while traveling downhill, Lee said.

The vehicle struck a man, who was ejected from a Cannondale bicycle and landed on the right shoulder.

The Ford veered to the left and crashed into a concrete center divider before it came to a stop on northbound lanes, according to Lee.

Sandoval-Pacheco was arrested at the scene and was booked into Santa Clara County Jail, Lee said.

The bicyclist, a 32-year-old San Jose man, was pronounced dead at the scene, Lee said. 

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office is not yet releasing his name until his next of kin is notified of the death.

CAMPBELL - One person died in a collision involving a vehicle and bicyclist Sunday afternoon in Campbell, according to an initial report by the California Highway Patrol.

A CHP dispatcher received a report at 4:12 p.m. of a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist on the San Tomas Expressway just north of Winchester Boulevard, Officer Damian Cistaro said. 

The victim suffered major injuries and died at the scene, Cistaro said.

The northbound lanes of the expressway were closed as officers conducted an investigation.
