Campbell Police and the DEA Take Back Your Drugs

A prescription drug take bag is taking place today at the Campbell Police Department from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Campbell Police and the DEA Take Back Your Drugs

Campbell Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration are offering residents a chance to drop off their expired prescription drugs today.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. residents can go to the Campbell Police Department, 70 N. First St. and drop off expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

The service is free and anonymous.

According to a Campbell Police release, Americans turned in 552,161 pounds—276 tons—of prescription drugs at over 5,600 sites operated by the DEA and nearly 4,300 state and local law enforcement partners last April.

"In its four previous 'Take Back' events, DEA and its partners took in over 1.5 million pounds—nearly 775 tons—of pills," the release said.

The initiative serves two purposes: public safety and public health.

"Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet," the release said.
