Community Comes Out to Clean Up Campbell

Nearly a hundred community members helped clean up Campbell Saturday. Some arrived in groups, others alone, but all walked away feeling a little bit better about their contributions to their community.

"We wanted to help our community and help our church," says Gina Harlow, a Campbell resident for 13 years and member of .

The church had 20 volunteers at the event, spread out between , , the railroad tracks along Winchester Boulevard and near Hacienda Road and along Highway 17, near Camden Avenue.

Harlow picked up trash at John D. Morgan Park.

"We wanted to feel like we have contributed to our community," says Peter Harlow, Gina's husband.

He picked up garbage at Campbell Middle School.

As they were cleaning up, some people found interesting things along the way.

Barry Shilman, president of the Downtown Campbell Neighborhood Association, found a $5 bill and a nickel near the railroad tracks.

A cow bell and crow bar were found by others but the most interesting find was made by Orchard Community Church volunteers. Brad Schroer and two other church members found old photographs dated back to the early 1930s and '40s.
