Read Across America

The National Education Association (NEA) celebrated Read Across America Day on March 2, Dr. Seuss’s birthday. To continue the NEA’s wish to motivate readers and encourage reading in your own household, here are five great places in Campbell to buy or borrow books.

Located in the , Barnes & Noble has a great selection of children’s books. In honor of Read Across America, the store has a special “Buy One, Get One 50 Percent Off” on selected children’s books, good online only through Monday. The store has regularly scheduled events for adults and children, including author signings, Nook e-reader demonstrations and children’s storytime, both with print books and e-books.

The library is always a great place to find a good book to read, and the Campbell Library is no exception. Part of the Santa Clara County library system, the Campbell Library has wonderful services all administered by the friendly, helpful staff. To instill the love of reading in your child, the library has an ongoing storytime program, which includes one for toddlers, another in the evening for families and one for preschoolers.

On a tight budget? At Recycled Bookstore, you can find plenty to read among the shelves and shelves of used books in almost any category, including a large children’s section. In business for more than 40 years, Recycled Bookstore is proud of the awards it has received, such as Metro’s Best of Silicon Valley 2008.

Comic books are a great way to introduce reluctant readers to the joy of reading, and Heroes is the place to go in Campbell for the best selection. Kids will love looking at the colorful artwork, and the fast-paced stories will keep them hooked. Heroes also specializes in vintage comics for the collector, and it offers free appraisals as well.

A Latter-day Saints book and supply store, the Beehive Bookstore offers a variety of adult and children’s books. For children, you’ll find such books as the beautifully illustrated Modern Fables, activities books and Dizzy Fantastic and Her Flying Bicycle, a fun tale of a girl who learns to believe in herself.
