UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck and Killed on San Tomas Expressway

A 31-year-old San Jose man was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing the San Tomas Expressway in Campbell late Monday night, California Highway Patrol officials said.

A 19-year-old San Jose man was driving a 2001 Ford Expedition southbound on the expressway, north of Budd Avenue, when he struck the man, CHP officials said.

The pedestrian attempted to cross the expressway at around 11 p.m.
and the driver was unable to avoid hitting him, according to the CHP.

Investigators determined that alcohol and drugs were not a factor for the driver. Alcohol was determined to be a factor with the pedestrian, however, CHP officials said.
