Become a Member of Carlsbad’s Community Emergency Response Team

The City of Carlsbad is accepting applications for its  Community Emergency Response Team, which provides emergency preparedness and response assistance to the Carlsbad community.

CERT volunteers are trained on fire safety, disaster medical operations and light search and rescue. They then participate in neighborhood readiness and public outreach programs including disaster drills to help prepare fellow residents for emergencies.

Residents interested in volunteering for the CERT are invited to attend an orientation on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at the Carlsbad Safety Training Center, located at 5750 Orion St.

The orientation will provide an overview of the program and information on how to apply. Training for the program will begin the evening of Monday, Jan. 28.

“The Community Emergency Response Team is a great way for Carlsbad residents to make a difference in their community,” said Sue Irey, volunteer coordinator for the City of Carlsbad. “CERT members assist fellow residents by educating them on emergency preparedness and providing support in times of emergency.” CERT volunteers must be residents of Carlsbad and at least 17 years old. A medical waiver and background check are required for volunteers accepted into the program.
