Carlsbad Navy Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash Near Julian

The 37-year-old Harley Davidson rider died Sunday on State Route 78.

San Diego County, CA — A Carlsbad resident and active-duty U.S. Navy man was killed Sunday in a motorcycle crash near Julian, according to authorities.

The 37-year-old man was fatally injured at 4:50 p.m. when he was thrown from his 2012 Harley Davidson Super Glide after he failed for unknown reasons to negotiate a slight curve on Highway 78, west of Spring View Road in Santa Ysabel, according to the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

CHP Officer Kevin Pearlstein said the victim, who had been traveling westbound, landed on the pavement in the eastbound lane, directly in the path of an oncoming 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by a 43-year-old San Diego man.
