Motorcycle Clips Truck in Slow Traffic on Interstate 5 in Carlsbad

A motorcycle passenger suffered serious injuries and was flown via life flight to Scripps La Jolla Hospital Saturday after she and the driver were ejected from the motorcycle on southbound Interstate 5 north of Carlsbad, CHP officials said.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. between the two far right hand lanes of southbound I-5 just north of Aliso Creek Rest Area, CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt said.

The 36-year-old male driver and his 30-year-old female passenger were riding a 2001 Yamaha R1 motorcycle between slow traffic in the two far right lanes when the bike clipped the rear of a Toyota Tundra truck in the far right lane, Bettencourt said.

The driver and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken via life flight to Scripps La Jolla Hospital while the driver suffered severe road rash, Bettencourt said.

The 32-year-old Huntington Beach man driving the 2007 Toyota Tundra and his passenger were both uninjured, Bettencourt said.
