Tri-City CEO Larry B. Anderson Recognized for Leading One of the 100 Great Hospitals in America
Becker’s Hospital Review has named Tri-City Medical Center CEO Larry B. Anderson one of “100 Leaders of Great Hospitals in America.” This award recognizes the leaders of the “100 Great Hospitals in America,” a list which was published by Becker's Hospital Review earlier in May. Selected from more than 5,700 hospitals, Tri-City Medical Center was recognized as an innovator in care delivery, medical treatments, research and technology. Anderson is now being recognized for his role in overseeing the remarkable financial turnaround of the medical center. Since becoming CEO in 2009, Anderson successfully refinanced Tri-City Medical Center’s debt to decrease its interest rates from 17.5 percent to just 5 percent. In 2011, when Tri-City Medical Center celebrated 50 years of providing outstanding medical care to the community, the medical center also recorded its first profit in decades with nearly $15 million in net income. Under Anderson’s leadership, the 397-bed hospital created the Cardiovascular Health and Orthopaedic and Spine Institutes. It also acquired the most advanced robotic surgery system available, the da Vinci Si® HD Robotic Surgical System, and became the only hospital in San Diego County to own the Mazor Robotics Renaissance™ System for back surgeries. Tri-City Medical Center now ranks in the top 1 percent of hospitals nationwide for its heart attack care, in the top 2 percent for heart failure and 3 percent for pneumonia care based on its 30-day readmission rates averaged over three years. This is not the first time Anderson has been recognized by business and industry groups. In 2013, he was named CEO of the Year by the Vista Chamber of Commerce and in 2012, Most Admired CEO by the San Diego Business Journal, Business Person of the Year by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, and one of 300 Hospital & Health System Leaders to Know Nationwide by Becker's Hospital Review. In 2011, Anderson earned the Healthcare Champion Award from the San Diego Business Journal. Tri-City Medical Center was also recently named one of the top “100 Great Places to Work in Healthcare” by Becker’s Hospital Review for the second consecutive year.
