Video: Mysterious Painted Rocks Around Carlsbad Explained

Thousands of rocks with the number 10 or a symbol of the number ten are being scattered throughout the city in preparation for the 10th annual ArtSplash.

Local artist Ron Juncal, owner of Studio 2 in Carlsbad has been dropping off hundreds of rocks created by members of the ArtSplash community and local kids, in various locations around town.

Each rock has either the number 10 on it, or is painted in a way that symbolizes 10, such as a ladybug with 10 dots. Some rocks also have another number on the bottom. If those rocks with rocks with the second number on them are brought back to ArtSplash Sept. 22 and 23, the finder will get a prize.

“I’ve only found maybe one rock that’s still there the day after I hid it, so people are picking them up,” said Juncal.

If you see any of these special rocks, Juncal hopes you pick them up and then bring them to ArtSplash. The rocks will be used at the event in a display and people can take them home after the weekend.
