5 Things You Need to Know, March 7-11

This week: Eat dinner while raising money for cancer research, eat lunch while you learn about the state budget.

  1. Learn to manage asthma Monday, March 7, with the “Getting Asthma Under Control” class at , 20103 Lake Chabot Rd., at 7 p.m. Participants will learn how to control triggers that can lead to an attack. The class is free and open to everybody. Registration, however, is required. Call 888-445-8433 for more information.
  2. The open house and workshop will be held at Hayward City Hall, 777 B St., on Wednesday, March 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Hear updates and discuss your ideas and concerns.
  3. The Hayward Main Library, 835 C St., offers bedtime stories for all ages Wednesday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to families and kids.
  4. Hop over to Hopyard Road in Pleasanton for a family dinner and raise money for Team Liv of the American Cancer Society's Castro Valley Relay for Life. The team will receive 15 percent of food and beverage sales from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Sweet Tomatoes, 4501 Hopyard Rd. You'll need to print out and bring a flyer; details .
  5. Learn more about the state budget on Friday, March 11, at 11:45 a.m. at the San Lorenzo Village Homes Association headquarters, 377 Paseo Grande. The League of Women Voters Eden Area are hosting a luncheon where Hon. Betty Yee, chairwoman of the California State Board of Equalization, will speak on how the proposed state budget will affect local communities.
