Brief Lockdown At Proctor Elementary Over Minor Incident

Sheriff's chase of burglary suspect prompts action. Kids never at risk.

Brief Lockdown At Proctor Elementary Over Minor Incident

There was a brief lockdown at Proctor Elementary School Tuesday morning.

The incident was not serious and arose out of an abundance of caution, according to Sgt. J.D. Nelson with the Alameda County Sheriff's Department.

Nelson said it all began Tuesday morning when a sheriff's deputy observed a man checking out car windows on a street near the school.

The deputy surmised that the man was intending to break into the car in order to steal its contents.

When the man fled in the direction of the school, sheriff's notified school authorities who instituted the lockdown, Nelson said.

The suspect never entered the school grounds and was apprehended, Nelson said.

The lockdown order was lifted before lunchtime.
