Concord is a haven for beer lovers. Not only does the city have a cluster of bars in the beautiful Todos Santos area, but there are also two local breweries to visit outside of downtown.
Ale Industries and Black Diamond Brewing Company both have tap rooms and a wide selection of year-round as well as seasonal beers.
The Fall Down Brown at Ale Industries sounds about as autumnal as a beer can get. "This is a big, malty, brown ale" is "brewed with 200lbs of sugar-pie pumpkins" and house-smoked over applewood and mesquite, according to Ale Industries. But the beer drinks more like a smoked beer than a traditional pumpkin beer, they add, so "don't expect to taste pie with this one!" A list of one-offs and rare beers is available on the Ale Industries website.
Black Diamond's Winter Ale offers more of a Christmas Eve taste — rich and decadent, with "dark fruity undertones" of raisins, dates, plums and cherries. According to Black Diamond, the Winter Ale's "long sherry-like finish pairs smoothly with rich meats, intensely flavored cheeses, nuts and desserts." For specialty beers, visit Black Diamond Brewery website.
Here's to a mouth-watering season. Cheers!
