Power Outage Affects 3,222 Homes in North Concord, Martinez

Parts of North Concord and Martinez were plunged into darkness around 9:05 p.m. Monday evening by a power cut. According to PG&E spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian, the outage affected 3,222 homes before power was restored completely at 12:05 a.m.

The manager at the Solano Westwind Drive-In, which lost power to its movie screens, said that the problem was caused by a blown transformer. Residents in the area reported seeing a bright light that may have been the transformer exploding.

Neighborhoods by the Concord Civic Center experienced flickering lights. Downtown Martinez was also apparently in pitch darkness, although lights remained on at the Marina.

PG&E initially estimated a restoration time of between midnight and 12:30 a.m., according to the PG&E power outage map.

"We apologize for the inconvenience, and worked as quickly and safely as possible to restore customers," Sarkissian said.
