UPDATE, 6:30 p.m.: Early investigations by the Concord Police Department suggest that a 14-year-old boy was crossing Solano Way in the crosswalk when he was hit by a car.

The woman driving the car stopped and cooperated with officers, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The boy, whose name and school have not been released, is at Children's Hospital in Oakland where he is in critical condition. The boy's father told police that he was walking to basketball practice.

Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a report at 1:26 p.m. of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at Solano Way at Grant Street.

Concord police blocked off westbound Solano Way as they investigated the accident.
