The alleged threat was reported about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Naval Base San Diego was targeted by another in a string of hoax bomb threats Wednesday morning, Navy officials reported. The latest in a series of more than 30 mostly handwritten messages allegedly threatening the military base was found aboard the USS Essex, which is docked at Pier 7, base officials reported in a Twitter post.

A security alert was issued about 8:30 a.m. when the alleged threat was found. Military police searched the vessel and the pier for anything hazardous, then gave an all-clear at 9:09 a.m. when nothing hazardous was found.

The threat was the 32nd to disrupt operations at the naval station and two adjacent shipyards, BAE Systems and General Dynamics NASSCO, since November. Most have been discovered in portable toilets, on piers and on ship decks and walls, according to authorities.
