Huge Sink Hole Closes Road In Culver City: CHP

A sink hole on this busy Culver City intersection closed the road for several hours, CHP said.

CULVER CITY, CA — If you are traveling in the area of West Slauson Avenue and Buckingham Parkway, you may wish to find another way around.

A contractor laying fiber-optic cable broke a water main Friday in Culver City, opening a sinkhole and disrupting service to a handful of business customers while closing a busy intersection, according to water company officials.

It was reported about 10 a.m. in the area of Slauson Avenue and Buckingham Parkway, according to Culver City Police.

Water service to about 13 business customers of Golden State Water Company was disrupted, a company spokesman said.

Traffic through the intersection was closed and was expected remain so into the evening hours as crews worked to repair the line. An estimated time of service restoration was not immediately available, but a water company spokesman said it would likely be a matter of a few hours.
