Metro has announced that it will begin repaving the lot on Feb. 19. The east side of the parking lot will be closed from from that day through Feb. 25 and the west side of the lot will be shut down from Feb. 26 through March. 4 to complete the second stage of repaving.

After ongoing complaints about the poorly paved lot at the Culver City Expo Line Station, especially following heavy rains that have turned the lot into a muddy mess, Metro’s Expo Construction Line Authority has finally chosen a contractor to repave the lot.

All American Asphalt Company won a bidding process that began back in October 2012, and according to the contract will complete the project sometime in February, with a budget not to exceed $316,467.

According to a release by Expo, the lot was originally designed to be a temporary lot that would eventually be handed over to the City of Culver City for future development.

The Expo Line Construction Authority’s release states:

Due to the temporary needs of the parking lot, it was sealed using a cost-effective material intended to last for the interim. However, due to the high demand for the parking lot, the sealer has been degraded in many places and is creating a dust and walking issue. The Exposition Metro Line Construction Authority (Authority) has recognized the concern and determined that it would be best to pave the parking lot with two to three inches of asphalt concrete in order to provide a smooth walking surface and minimize any possible dust pollution.

All American Asphalt Company’s work will include:

  • Preparing the ground
  • Hauling off any soil that cannot be reused
  • Ensuring that the parking lot has 50 percent of the total parking available for patron use at all times
  • Installing two to three inches of asphalt concrete and restriping the parking lot
