Photos: Culver City Bike Enthusiasts Join CicLAvia

Dozens of Culver City residents took part in downtown’s CicLAvia on Sunday. Upload your photos and comments here.

Incoming City Council member Meghan Sahli-Wells was just one of scores of Culver City residents who took to their bikes and skateboards and joined Sunday’s CicLavia, enjoying the opportunity of a car free down in downtown Los Angeles.

“Yesterday's ride through car-free Los Angeles was inspiring,” Sahli-Wells told Patch in an email. “I saw more people smiling in three hours than I have in the last three months,” she said, adding, “The truly exciting news is that, during the kick-off of CicLAvia, Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa announced a new bike-share program in the city [ more info here]. These bike-friendly measures are revolutionizing the quality of life of Angelenos... and my hope is to bring these initiatives to Culver City. I've attended every CicLAvia, since it's beginning on October 10, 2010 (10/10/10), and the event's success and attendance has increased every time. Coupled with the Expo Line, which opens its La Cienega station on April 28, followed by the Culver City station this summer, Culver City will become a hub of healthy transportation choices. I can't wait!"

Another incoming council member – Jim Clarke – was also spotted taking part in the day on two wheels. And Culver City rode proud, including a group of some 40 enthusiastic cyclists from the Culver City Bicycle Coalition, led by Dino Parks, who rode together from Media Park to downtown.

Resident Aimee McManus and her family also took part in the ride. “This was our second year participating in CicLAvia,” she told Patch via email. “It is a wonderful event and we look forward to it every year.  This was the first year that all of ours kids rode (as opposed to being pulled in a bike trailer) and everyone had a great time.”
